Hamlet
The story of the court of Elsinore’s descent into bloody chaos is told through third person narrative and essential scenes enacted by students in role. This retelling of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy emphasises the narrative thread as it effects the main character and Prince Hamlet’s constant self-reflection.
Stories from Shakespeare’s plays brought to life in a dramatic mixture of storytelling,
recitation,physicalisation,puppetry and participatory workshop.
Blessed are we students, who were given the opportunity to partake in this magnificent play. Not only were we asked to lend our ears and eyes, but our voices and bodies as well…After a long period of ghost-spotting, feigning madness, eavesdropping, plotting cunning plans, drowning in rivers, etc... and after half of the cast had died, the time had come at last for the other half to die. And so it came to pass that I (Laërtes) single-handedly slew Hamlet and died a noble death whilst doing so.
In the end, when to be had to be replaced by not to be, the troubles at the court were no more, for no one was left to care for them.
